Background
Walter grew up in a small farming community in North Central Washington and earned a degree in Electronic Engineering. He began his career with Christenson Electric in 1987, later moving to Power City in Spokane where he advanced to Operations Manager. Returning to Christenson as President in 2003, he helped stabilize the company and ultimately purchased it in 2008.
Company
Founded in 1945, Christenson Electric provides electrical construction, renewable energy, A/V and security, and utility work, with service spanning Northern Oregon, Southwestern Washington, and renewable projects nationwide. Its service fleet of nearly 200 vehicles supports customers across the region.
NECA Involvement
Walter has been active with NECA since the mid-1990s, serving in leadership roles within both the Northwest Line and Oregon-Columbia Chapters. He has been a member of the NECA National Political Leadership Council since 2020 and the Council on Industrial Relations (CIR) since 2018. In 2019, he received the Comstock Award and was inducted into the Academy of Electrical Contractors.
Industry Perspective
Walter sees technology as the biggest change in electrical construction, improving communication and connectivity between the field, office, and customers.
Personal
Walter and his partner, Nerissa, have five children, four grandchildren, and two dogs. They enjoy bird hunting in Washington during fall and winter, and spending summers on the lake boating and wake surfing.
